Diagnostic Department of Neuropathology
The Department of Neuropathology at the Charité is, as the only university neuropathology institution in Berlin and Brandenburg, the institution with the widest range of samples: 7200 samples from around 2500 patients are processed and analysed every year by ten neuropathologists, six of whom are highly experienced consultants in neuropathology. Additionally, we also carry out around 900 brain and spinal cord autopsies annually.

Service
The Department of Neuropathology is able to analyze a variety of tissue samples such as brain and spinal cord biopsies obtained from the Neurosurgery Department as well as skeletal muscle, peripheral nerve biopsies and skin and intestine biopsies. Additionally, we are able to analyze liquor samples and undertake brain autopsies.
Since we have a critical mass of experienced neuropathologists for each specialized area, we are able to cover a wide disease spectrum applying "state of the art" diagnostic tools. Diagnostic procedures include conventional methods such as histology, immuno- and enzyme histochemistry, morphological assessments, electron microscopy and a variety of modern molecular genetic techniques.
In the menu tabs on the left you can select any diagnostic area you may be interested in to obtain a more detailed overview as well as important information for senders and contact details of relevant staff.
